OMG Maya is unbelievable! It's "full potential" is almost limitless.
I've always been interested in 3D art (or art in general), so I went to school to help me learn it. I'm a game tester right now. Looking for game design / game artist work.

Ian, Ever use Lightwave 3D? I qualified (being a US Gov't Employee) for the educational version of 7.5 with a free upgrade to 8 when it ships this July. This joker lists for $1595.00 retail, so I stole it at $400.00. And the educational version is a FULL version, not limited in any way. The only real limit, is that you are not supposed to use for commercial production. If I decide at some point I want to sell my work, I can upgrade to a commercial license for about another $400.00. I have no experience with pro level 3d renderers but I decided if I ever wanted to seek a graphics profession "post Army", I will need these skills. Ideas on where to start? I realize that Maya and Lightwave are like apples and oranges from an interface standpoint, but the therory is the same, and they are equally powerful. Do you own your own copy of Maya? Tell me about its copy protection... I read that once Maya is installed, it is bound to that computer for its life, meaning you cannot uninstall and reinstall on a faster machine, is this true? Lightwave uses a Hardware "Dongle" that is simply a USB "Key" that you must have in while using the software.

I played a little with Maya back in the day... From what I remember it was kinda similar to 3DStudioMax...
I remember back in the day, I played with Character Studio... The videos and stuff make it look easy to do, but damn, it took me almost 4 hours to make a sorta stick figure dude walk forward, stop and wave...
