We're gonna TRY and start a temporary Vietnam server tonight, just for fun... It probably can't handle more tha 6-8 players. More info in a bit.

Monkey's first review..After 1 hour of playtime:
Graphics 8.5 / 10 This game just looks great..not on par with say, Halflife 2 but quite abit better than 42'.
Sound 9.5 / 10 Simply Awesome, the music and news anoucements coming from loudspeakers is too cool and very positional. Nicely done
Multiplayer: 6 / 10 OK before you shoot me, the servers I joined were all LAGFESTS and damn near unplayable..There are several early bugs that I noticed...cant refresh servers by ping for one..perhaps when we try to run on XL's work server we might have better results, but let me assure you..this game has massive potential. Justs needs a quick patch to work some minor bugs.
Singleplayer: 7.5 / 10 The AI is still atrocious, however the game plays with no lag. Good way to learn the maps. Fun to be had here.
So first impression is overall good, most issues should be patched fairly quickly.
As shipped 8 / 10 Potential 9 / 10

I agree with Pat. Game has BIG potential. Diverse player options and the enginer kicks ass and has a decient long gun this time. There is a lot to learn on this game. You can literally blend in in the jungle and really do some damage in this game. A sniper would have a field day with this. A game worth getting.

I would keep the server on 1942 untill EA works out some bugs. In the meantime we should learn the maps and play the different solders and the kits that he has. Also learn how to fly the choppers. Those choppers with a skilled pilot will make the difference in winning the map or losing it. A new chalange for EZ and Monkey.

Thank you for the review. I know most of you have a little better set-up than I do, but if it lags online for you guys, I am sure not going to have the best of luck with it due to my online problems with BF1942. Sounds like the single player will be cool for a bit... I will be stuck with SP for a few weeks anyway when I move, as I will be waiting for a broadband connection to be installed in the new house. (I refuse to even deal with dial-up!) Just got confirmation that I will be able to pick up my copy on 3/18/04 - that'll be the last time I ever pre-order a game through a major electronics chain.

BTW... I will agree with Midknight on his last statement. If the game needs to be patched to improve performance, then I would prefer to play "old" Battlefield over "new" Battlefield then have to tend to laggy maps. Yech!

Im gonna have jungle nightmares tonight. There are so many places to hide. In 1942, usually you could do a quick visual scan of the area and feel pretty safe. Now, the guy might be 6 feet away and you'd never know until his machete pops out!

I played on two servers tonight with not incredible ping (between 150 and 200), but it was smooth! No lag at all. I love these maps! The city maps are moody with a definite third-world tropical feel. I could just about smell the heady odors of jasmine, steamy rain, sweat, mud, and gunpowder. The jungle maps are just beautiful - vibrant colors and textures - and you can actually hide in the foliage. Small arms have distinct sounds and feel, and believe me they captured the M16 sound perfectly. The copters are a lot easier to maneuver than in DC, and the heat seeking missiles are pretty cool! I definitely prefer this over any of the BF1942 mods or expansions. Overall I agree with Monkey's ratings of 8 with a potential for 9, so let me just give it an 8.5. To be fair, if this game came out before BF1942 I would have to give it a 10.

Sheep you sound like you are a writer for a gaming magazine. So descriptive and sighting the smallest detail like the sound of the M16 and M60 and also noticing the texture of the foliage. You sound like my college prof. LOL . Knifing someone will be a lot easier in this game and a lot more common too.
