I have a pretty simple solution - anytime you need to open the CD drive, place the laptop and you inside a garbage bag, close the bag, and then put the CD in. Genius. And then just stay in the bag, cuz from what Ive hear, war friggin sucks. BWAAHAHAHA! Man you kill me Robot! Oh man, sides hurting again...

Ok, so back to the camera.
Has anyone shelled out for one yet? and if so, where did you buy it from and for how much? Im contemplating taking the plunge, but its a lot of green to part with.
The second question (and possible money saver), will the XT accept the old film canon rebel lenses? I have the stock lens from my old camera (that broke), so Im hoping I might be able to just buy the body for now. Another option that VR mentioned (which is also a good idea) is to buy the lens and body and ebay the lens to recoup some cost (provided the old film lens works with the new digi body).

You may want to take some time to carefully choose lenses. Canon manufactures lots of extremely versatile lenses for it's EF and EOF line but at the same time comes with many conditions. For example, the Canon EF 16~35mm f/2.8L USM zoom and Canon 15mm f/2.8 work with both a film and digital body, but only works on a less than full-frame sensor. Another example, the EF-S 17-85MM f4-5.6 IS USM zoom (which gives sharp images despite my cynicism about it's reduced frame quality) only works with digital bodies; and even then only with Canon 20D and 300D Rebel (and likely future 1.6X factor DSLRs). It does *not* work with digitals that have a focal length multiplier less than 1.3X Also, rumours have it that Minolta, Olympus and a few other camera biggies will be coming out with their own new models around late 2006. If these heresies turn out true, the 300D price will plummet a thousand or so. My view is, if you can stand to wait for a while.....patience always was a virtue.....unles you're a bird. Then the worm you're waiting for just crawls away. Oh, by the way....this isn't Ryland/David. It's his girlfriend. I hope it's ok to post. I'll never do it again, I swear!

Cool. thanks for the info Rylands GF. btw, what is your name? so that we dont keep calling you Rylands GF. lol.
Sounds like you own a DSLR.
Depending on the price, I think I want to buy the film lenses so that I have the flexibility if I ever get a EOS film body. Depending on the price of course. But I have a feeling that the film lenses (provided theyre not USM) are cheaper then the digitals (although probably heavier).

Good idea, LZ, as long as you make sure before-hand that it's compatible. An added bonus in some cases is the focal length of, say an 18mm lens, get's multiplied to 20mm or even 30mm, depending on the camera.
And I personally have only my beloved Canon Rebel G2 [film] but as Yearbook Photo Editor in my high school, I had the incredible luck of working extensively with the Nikon D1, D1X, D2H and D70 [Our advisor was a hard-core Nikon fan]; along with a miscellany of other photo equipment.
And thanks for the welcome, strangely enough, I enjoy trolling this forum; It's afforded me a few belly laughs and I feel like I know most of you already just from reading your posts. Of course Ryland doesn't know I come on often.....
*shifty eyes*
Shhh, he still believes he has to give me extra nookie to twist my arm into reading his posts. ;D

Yeah, I heard that one of the advantages is that with the standard lenses, you pretty much get a zoom lens due to the size of the imaging sensor.
Oooh, Nikon... drool drool. Nice cameras and accessories, but too much denero unless you do it for a living.
Hey, anything that gets anyone a little extra nookie is all good with me. ;D

get a cf card with a high write speed, it'll keep your fps rate extremly fast.
